Some Wintry Book Covers

For those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s winter! Yay!

Even though I absolutely hate snow with a passion (I once got a snowball thrown in my eye at full force and now I hate the stuff), winter is my second favourite season (obviously after autumn). I just prefer getting all bundled up whether it’s in coats and pretty scarves, or comfy blankets at home while chilling out next to the radiator, rather than soaking through all my clothes and getting sunburnt. The way that the colour of the landscapes changes just looks so pretty to me in winter and I can see wintry tones and colours in quite a few book covers. What better way to show how much I like wintry colours, than to illustrate my point with some book covers that I love. I’ll let you in on a secret that I haven’t actually read many of these books (I’m reading one of them right now), but that’s okay because I still like the covers!

Gah, those eyelashes! And that teardrop that turns into an icicle! This cover just screams winter to me, and by just looking at it, it’s pretty obvious why. I think the design of not just this cover, but all the covers for this series is enough for me to pick them up and read them.

The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Weird choice, I know, but this actually makes a bit of sense. The Grisha trilogy is based on Russian folklore, and Russia is known for being an incredibly cold country in the winter. They also get lots of snow, therefore these are wintry covers.

Look at those frosty colours! Gaahhhh. Blue is my favourite colour, mainly because you can make all sorts of frosty pallets with it, and the blue, white, and grey combination on Throne of Glass‘s cover just looks gorgeous. I haven’t read this book yet, but it is on my TBR pile for this month, so I will finally be able to have this gorgeous gorgeousness in my hands!

This book (that I am reading right now) takes place at Christmas, so it’s obviously got to have snow on it. Duh. And look! There’s little hearts in between the flecks of snow! Ah, so cute.

To be honest, I actually like the UK edition better than the cover here, but I couldn’t find a picture that was good enough quality, and I don’t own this book. Yet. But the paperback edition is still very nice. This cover just screams “holiday book” to me, not only from the font and the numerous Christmas trees that can be seen, but there’s also mainly the fact that Mary and Joesph look like they’re having a whale of a time out on that ice. And who could blame them? I love ice skating! I really want to go ice skating now, but at this time of year the rink will be packed.

What are some of your favourite “wintry” book covers?

Ouch, that snowball throw must have hurt. But that guy must have had pretty good aim. xD I live in a season-less country, so I don't get to experience such privileges, unfortunately! But gosh, who knew wintry covers could be so pretty?! The Shatter Me trilogy has some of the prettiest covers I've seen. I'm glad they made the cover change, but now I'm stuck with the old cover of the first book, and I can't bring myself to buy the new version because I didn't really like the story. D:

YAY FOR THE GRISHA TRILOGY!!! I love how Leigh Bardugo was inspired by Russian culture — it's so unique. Also, don't even get me started on the typography. LOVE. So yep. Definitely gorgeous wintry covers.

Blue's my favorite color too! Even though I hate the cold, I tend to lean more toward colder colors like purple and blue. No idea why. I can't wait to hear what you think of Throne of Glass! I thought it was just okay, because Celaena never struck me as an cold-hearted assassin, but apparently everything gets much better in Crown of Midnight — another beautiful cover. Hoping you enjoy it!

My True Love Gave to Me has such an adorable cover, but yeah, I think I like the UK edition more, too. I think the sides of the pages are pink? PRETTY. I saw it in the bookstore the other day and my sister had to physically pry me away from it because it was so stunning. I was willing to buy it just for the cover itself. ><

I think you mentioned almost all of my favorite winter book covers here! πŸ˜€

I HATE THE WINTER, haha. I had to get that out of my system, but my body is seriously not build for cold weather :') It just shuts down and the dark skies make me feel depressed & I'm just tired all the time. Yeah, not for me. The only thing I like about it is Christmas <3

Back to the topic, the covers are great though. The Grisha covers are one of the prettiest ever and I love how they look together. Blue is one of my favorite colors too, so I'm simply in love with these designs from Throne of glass.

I totally get how you feel about winter, Mel, haha. I used to hate it because it's too cold to go outside, but now that's the reason why I like it. And it's also because I've always just preferred nighttime. But that's just me.

And yes, the Grisha covers are so gorgeous, I hope they never get redesigned (I keep seeing copies with alternate colours in shops, but I just don't like them as much)!

Yup, that snowball really did hurt. I remember that when I got home, all the skin around my eye was all inflamed and puffy >.< Every time I see snowballs flying, I'm out of there.

I love all the Russian influences too! I've always been interested in Russian culture and I've wanted to visit either St. Petersburg or Moscow, so if I ever go, I'd definitely be in a total Grisha mood.

I adore the Throne of Glass cover! I never really thought of it as wintery before but it totally is!! πŸ˜‰ And Unravel Me? OMIGOSH IT'S THE BEST. I love those eyeball covers.
